In 2003, Children’s National Medical Center awarded UBT their entire copier contract, over 250 machines. Our partnership remains strong today because of their transition to Canon products with UBT resulted in: increased reliability, improved ease of use, and reduced overall copier costs.
Children’s National Medical Center was established in 1870 and today it is the only exclusive provider of pediatric care in the metropolitan Washington area, serving more than 360,000 patients each year. Children’s National is consistently ranked among the best pediatric hospitals in America by US News & World Report, and the Leapfrog Group, and is a proven leader in the development and application of innovative new treatments for childhood illness and injury.
Children’s National Medical Center had identified three major areas for improvement in their copier contract: technical response, billing, and cost control. United Business Technologies was selected by Children’s National Medical Center to be their new exclusive copier provider for the following reasons:
- Superior technical service: UBT provides an on-site technician, dedicated to maintaining and responding to technical calls on any of the over 250 copiers at Children’s National Medical Center.
- Customizable billing: UBT provides a single itemized bill that is customized to include the individual departmental cost center charge back codes, to allocate copier usage charges. This billing system also lists the location, individual meter usage and departments assigned to each unit, providing a comprehensive inventory of equipment to the hospital.
- Cost reduction: Although Xerox charged Children’s National Medical Center a termination fee of almost $1 million, UBT was able to pay off that termination fee while reducing the overall monthly copier charge for the hospital.
Our consultative approach allows customers such as Children’s Hospital to improve their total document workflow efficiency by integrating systems such as managed print services, electronic document management and multifunctional devices. Today, Children’s National Medical Center remains a satisfied and valuable partner for UBT, and we remain dedicated to constantly looking for ways to strengthen our relationship.
Lee Kuhn, the Director of Material’s Management for Children’s National Medical Center, summarizes his satisfaction with the transition to United Business Technologies:
"UBT's technical division is responsive, knowledgeable, and professional. The accounts payable department clearly appreciates having to process only one monthly bill for our entire copier fleet, especially compared to our prior billing structure that was impossible to reconcile and often inaccurate. Best of all, Children's Hospital was able to save a significant amount of money, which certainly can be put to better use in our hospital."
