New Canon imageRUNNER ADVANCE 4000 Series Expands Lineup Of Intelligent Multifunctional Advance Platform

LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y. - March 12, 2012 – Expanding the imageRUNNER ADVANCE lineup, Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, today announced the new imageRUNNER ADVANCE 4000 series, a versatile and foundational monochrome MFP for mid-volume office environments. The new models offer advanced solutions for improving small department and large workgroup productivity and collaboration. They feature one-stop operations, multi-tasking capabilities and an improved user interface for a more intuitive operation, along with improvements in productivity, high-volume paper handling capabilities and flexible in-line finishing options.

As the newest addition to the imageRUNNER ADVANCE product line, the imageRUNNER ADVANCE 4051/4045/4035/4025 models will serve as an upgrade path for the imageRUNNER 3245 Series. The 4000 Series improvements from its predecessor include utilization of the ADVANCE architecture and interface, faster B&W output speeds and color scan speeds and the ability to accept a wider range of paper weights and media. The imageRUNNER ADVANCE 4051/4045/4035/4025 models produce letter-sized black-and-white output at 51 ppm, 45 ppm, 35 ppm and 25 ppm, respectively and incorporate a100-sheet capacity scanner and auto-duplex document feeder to easily convert paper documents to digital files. Its powerful system architecture is then able to process even the largest and most complex jobs quickly, moving them through the network at remarkable speeds via Universal Send in formats that reduce file sizes without losing the integrity.

The imageRUNNER ADVANCE 4000 Series user interface has been designed for greater simplicity and ease-of-use. These include the addition of a large, full-color 8.4" high-resolution TFT screen with wide viewing angles and clear images. Menus have been optimized to help streamline workflow, giving one-touch access to system functions. On-screen buttons and workflows can be further customized by each user or department for a personalized and productive experience.

The 1200 x 1200 dpi print resolution produces fine lines and crisp text, and half-tones are set and rendered at the ideal levels. Finally, through a choice of modular accessories, including an optional internal hole-punch that helps reduce the machine's footprint, document finishing process is kept professional for the end-user.

The imageRUNNER ADVANCE 4000 series may be equipped with optional industry-leading workflow solutions such as uniFLOW, which saves time and money by providing effective controls over the entire fleet; eCopy ShareScan, a line of document imaging solutions that adds innovative, personalized scan and workflow features, including automated document and forms processing - allowing office workers the ability to turn paper into automated digital information; and imageRUNNER ADVANCE Essentials, an integrated software suite designed to enhance the end-user experience and interaction with imageRUNNER ADVANCE models.

Improved Access, Collaboration and Security 

In today's always-on, global work environment, businesses can miss significant opportunities if any part of their operational infrastructure, such as document processing, goes down. To improve uptime and efficiencies, the new imageRUNNER ADVANCE models address this issue with solutions such as the imageWARE Enterprise Management Console, a highly scalable web-based management utility capable of installing, monitoring and managing multiple Canon and third- party networked devices on customer networks. The Enterprise Management Console provides an overall proactive and automated centralized device management solution for Canon MDS.

The imageRUNNER ADVANCE 4000 series models also make it easy to collaborate on documents across the network and through the cloud. The Canon Cloud Portal for imageRUNNER ADVANCE is a free application that connects the imageRUNNER ADVANCE office system directly to Microsoft® SharePoint© Online and Google Docs^TM Cloud. Advanced Box, a built-in document sharing solution, further enables collaboration by giving users access to the system's storage space from multiple locations, including PCs and other networked imageRUNNER ADVANCE systems, while still allowing for local saving of documents as well for those needing privacy.

The imageRUNNER ADVANCE 4000 Series multifunction office systems have obtained Common Criteria Certification conforming to the IEEE 2600.1 standard. The IEEE2600.1 standard is a Protection Profile for Hard Copy devices used in "Operational Environment A", which is generally characterized as a restrictive commercial information processing environment in which a relatively high level of document security, operational accountability, and information assurance are required. Typical information processed in "Operational Environment A" is trade secret, mission-critical, or subject to legal and regulatory considerations such as for privacy or governance.

United Business Technologies is proud to announce the launch of its new office in Columbia, Maryland that will be building our current customer base in the Baltimore area.  This will be UBT’s third location in addition to our Gaithersburg, MD and McLean, VA offices.  We are also very excited to announce our new Baltimore Manager, Wes Rowh, who was recently promoted from his Major Account Executive role in McLean, VA.

Mr. Rowh has over 4 years of sales experience in the office imaging industry and is a graduate from the University of Maryland in 2004 with a Bachelor in Arts.  From Maryland Mr. Rowh then went on to earn his Master of Science degree from the University of Baltimore in 2006.  He has served in numerous positions including Sales Representative, Major Account Executive, and now will be managing the sales office in Baltimore.  With a strong knowledge of imaging technology and understanding customer goals, Mr. Rowh has been responsible for growing commercial sales and managing some of UBT’s largest accounts.

Throughout the evening various awards and achievements were recognized by UBT’s President, Scott Manoogian.  In 2011 UBT increased its revenue in both service and equipment bringing the total revenue to an outstanding $43.5 million, a 6% increase from the previous year.  We would like to thank all of our loyal customers who continue to partner with us year after year and help us be the success we are today!

It was recently reported by MSNBC that  "HP LaserJet printers built before 2009 will accept remote firmware updates without properly checking where they come from.  This means that - at least in theory - a hacker could cook up a malicious firmware update and upload it to a printer to make it stop working, spy on print jobs, or maybe even set the printer on fire."

UBT wants to ensure that our customers' equipment and data are protected - please see below for Canon and SmartPrint Security safeguards:

Canon Security

1.  Canon devices do not automatically check for firmware upgrades unless specified to.  This feature can be turned on or off.

2.  The firmware cannot be updated via a print job sent to the machine.

3.  Canon devices are upgraded in two secure ways, Physically at the device using: a.) proprietary utilities and firmware or b.) Remotely using Canon's secure CDS and UGW delivery system directly to the device.

4.  The Universal Send feature, when configured with a Canon device, is typically configured only to send emails never to receive emails, which prevents spam and unauthorized use.

5.  Furthermore, Canon's advanced line of copies have advanced security options that provide encryption, digital signatures and additional security layers to further protect the client's network and the Canon device itself.

SmartPrint Security

1.  Typically, most network printers are behind a companies' firewall and are unable to be accessed from outside the domain.

2.  The DCA as of today does not facilitate attacks of this nature on printers.  Today, we read data from the MIB which is the data storage component of the printer memory and not the memory segment that holds executable code.

3.  With the advanced security features Canon provides, along with current network policies and protocols, most Canon MFPs are securely behind network firewalls and are unable to receive firmware upgrades via print jobs.

4.  Firmware updates are securely performed by a certified service technician using proprietary Canon utilities.
