In today's world, it's crucial for every company to be up-to-date with technology. Technology can either be the keystone of success or the basis of failure, and the difference depends on whether or not that technology is being used to the extent of its power. All the high-tech gadgets in the world still won't do any good if no one takes the time to understand how to use and apply them. Because of this, it's important to spend some time getting to know your technology--so read the box. Skim the instruction manual. And, most importantly, follow step-by-step guides for the more complex tasks.

Network Printers

If you're looking to better understand your technology, the network printer is a great place to start. These printers are often shared between multiple members of a team, workplace, or home--and that means that each has to connect to the printer individually. While this seems like a daunting task to those less familiar with networks and technology, there are a few simple steps that will help minimize challenges and maximize productivity. Once everything is properly organized, a network printer has a lot to offer. All you have to do is connect to it.

Connecting

Trying to connect to a network printer can be a little confusing. Here are a few simple steps to make the task easy and pain-free.

  • Step 1. First, identify the printer you're trying to connect to, as well as its on-screen name. If there isn't a shared printer in your workplace, you'll have to configure an existing printer to be shared. This is relatively simple and requires clicking the "Share this Printer" box in the "Devices and Printers" window of your computer.
  • Step 2. Once a printer has been located, the next step is to prep your computer for connection. To do this, go to the "Devices and Printers" tab of the Control Panel and click "Add a Printer."
  • Step 3. When you've clicked "Add a Printer," you'll be presented with two options. One asks if you'd like to connect to a local printer--one that is connected to your computer. You'll need to select the next option, which refers to a network, wireless, or Bluetooth printer.
  • Step 4. You will then be prompted to find and select your desired printer. Using the name you identified earlier, click the correct printer. You will then be prompted to print a test page using this printer, which will both ensure that you've connected to the right printer and that your connection is working correctly.
