The cloud is described in a multitude of ways; document storage on the Internet, store photos and music for fee, distributed computing network all are great definitions. However this is why, to the average user, all the talk about the cloud is confusing. So what is the correct definition of the cloud?

The official definition of the cloud is debatable, but there is a correct definition. The cloud is used for a wide range of technologies that are accessible through the Internet. Yes, there is a lot more to this definition including the different types of clouds available.

Thanks to the cloud there is a wide range of technologies and thanks to the Internet we can access this technology from almost anywhere in the world. With multiple devices that have Internet capability – tablets, smart phones, iPod’s etc. with an increase in accessibility and availability more and more things can be accomplished with high speeds and reliability. Some of these things include:

  • Cloud storage - storing personal music, photos, files
  • Cloud computing – get more computing power
  • Cloud applications – access software applications
  • Cloud infrastructure – use computer network and infrastructures
